Last of the Summer Wine Triumph Herald sells for £18,480.

Tennants Auctioneers sold what must be the most famous Triumph Herald on the planet last week. The car which was driven by Thora Hird usually in a very comical way was a regular in the early series of the show, The price paid including premium was comfortably over £18,000 which was a good premium on what you would pay for a standard car, but given its story well worth it we feel especially for those such as us who are old enough to remember the show!.

The ACA lot list for their next sale on the 26th June is beginning to build nicely and for those seeking something a little different the lot list includes a left hand drive 1952 Hotchkiss Gregoire which is estimated at £12,000 to £18,000. Further details are to follow, but as you will see from the photographs this is a rather unique looking car.

Whilst the words wreck might be argued by some to be a little strong for the more officially titled 1960 Jaguar XK150S project that Bonhams sold for £90,000 at its MPH sale last week, the photograph certainly suggests a challenging project has been bought by someone. The estimate was closer to the £10k mark although that was never going to happen given what the S variants command in value when fully restored.

The results from Historics Ascot sale which took place yesterday are now available. There were some interesting estimate beating results such as the £40,752 paid for a 1970 Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce (estimated at £25,000 - £30,000).

Record sale results are continuing to roll in across all auction houses which can only be a reflection of the buoyant state of the classic car market at present. The car in question is a Triumph 2500 Pi MK 2 which was owned by senior road test and development engineer Gordon Birtwistle.

They clearly have some significant backing having built 30,000 square feet bespoke premises in Runcorn, Cheshire which will also be used for storage, club meetings and normal classic car dealing alongside their auction activities.
