Austin A35

The Austin A35 was an upgraded Austin A30 and was produced in Saloon, Estate, Van, and Pick-Up forms. Visually, it differed from the A30 with a wrap around rear window and a painted front grill. It also had higher performance. Other improvements included a remote gearchange and gearbox ratios that improved performance further. Winkers also replaced the semaphore indicators. The saloon was produced from 1956 to 1959, but the estate went on until 1962 and the van was in production until 1968. Drum brakes were fitted all round. In spite of the fairly basic stated performance figures, the A35 felt like a very nippy little car to drive in its time and they were very reliable. Clearly, the rounded sit-up-and-beg body styling set it apart from other vehicles and it was a very popular little car to own and drive. It was replaced by the Austin A40 Farina.
