Iconic Auctioneers at the NEC

This last weekend brought the fabulous NEC classic car show which typically marks the end of the season. On the Saturday Iconic Auctioneers held their last sale of the year and despite a lacklustre economic backdrop they achieved some very good results with a handful of world records. Top of that list has to be the £46,000 paid for a 1984 Ford MK2 Transit Twin Wheel LWB Custom Van which shows just strong the interest is in commercials which have low survivor numbers which are generally in poor condition having had a hard working life. With just 18,855 miles this one was sure to generate plenty of interest and it certainly did! There is no doubt that the classic car market is in the middle of something of a correction, but that did not stop someone from paying £108,000 for a 1974 Ford Escort Mk1 RS2000. The narrative suggests the car is the result of a fastidious restoration and the premium paid will reflect that. Big prices for Ford Sierra RS500 are now commonplace and this sale was no exception with £137,250 paid for a 1987 car which was an Ex-Ford press/promotion vehicle and had just 12,530 miles on the clock. An 1990 Audi UR Quattro 2.2 Turbo RR 20v which is one of only 295 right-hand drive examples made a strong £83,250. It was good to see plenty of interest in a 1931 Bentley 4-Litre Sports Saloon which sported its original Gurney Nutting coachwork and went on to make £129,375. The ultimate fast Ford has to be the 1986 Ford RS200 Evolution in this sale which has just 12 miles on the clock! Unsurprisingly this one nearly achieved a new record and went on to make £486,000. The sale also included the ultimate Ford Capri namely a 1973 Ford Capri RS3100 which went on to make £54,833.
