Mathewsons

Mathewsons have posted their sale results for the first time following their two day sale over Friday and Saturday. Normally no results are posted so this is a departure from their normal practice. The sale result of note has to be the 1959 Morris Mini which is a very early car and looked as if it had been subjected to a significant restoration. The car looked superb and made a significant £26,750 hammer price before commission. No doubt the condition and the fact it is a 59 car made all the difference on the day.

A good indication that E-Type values are still on the wane was the £25,500 paid before commission for a 1973 Jaguar E-Type V12 Coupe which once belonged to Bill Maynard from Hearbeat. The car did need recommissioning as it hadn't been on the road for several years, but seemed in generally good order. Not that long ago Series 3 cars were comfortably making £50k plus but they have clearly dropped in recent months although clearly this one does need some money spent.

We did think the glorious Standard Vanguard which had been the subject of a £40k restoration would have achieved more than the £15k hammer price. That said the price was approaching record levels, but it still looked like an amazing car for that money.
