Historics

Historics latest sale took place yesterday at the Ascot racecourse and the results are now available online. A few results are worthy of mention such as the no reserve Ford Fiesta XR2 with 60,754 miles on the clock which made £20,720. A 1983 Vauxhall Astra MK1 GTE with 20,782 miles on the clock which was sold no reserve made £19,244. A VW Golf GTi Mk2 with 38,213 miles made what must be a record for a MK2 at £32,828. At the other end of the spectrum several pre war cars which sold with no reserve were bought cheaply although it may also be a sign of the structural shift in value for pre war cars. They were all no reserve cars and a 1929 Morris Flatnose Doctor's Coupe made just £5,040 whilst a 1929 Morris Oxford Flatnose Doctor's Coupe made £4,811. Not that long ago this would have been half price. Also a 1931 Morris Cowley made just £3,962, which certainly looks cheap even in a world where values are under pressure for pre war cars. One pre war car that did however buck this trend and stormed through its estimate of £15,000 to £19,000 was a Morris 10/4 saloon which was in superb condition and made a very strong £28,000.
