H&H

H&H have included a nice report on this week's sale which we have copied below. From our perspective the notable results have to be the 1977 Ford Escort 1300 Sport which achieved £9605; low mileage MK2 Escorts are now regularly achieving £10k which shows the strengthening market for early Fords. Staying with Fords, a 1990 Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth went on to achieve £25760 and we are frequently seeing Cosworth powered Fords hit new highs as well. A 1957 Sunbeam MK III Saloon which was in superb condition and had just 32,000 recorded miles hit £15,680 which might well be a record for this model of Sunbeam Talbot.

H&H Report

There was standing room only in the Pavilion Gardens' Octagon Theatre for much of H&H's July 29th auction and with over 600 registered bidders competition for the assorted motobilia, motorcycle, registration number and motorcar lots on offer was fierce.

Top performers among the motorcars were the four Jaguar E-Types. Offered for sale at no reserve and purchased by the vendor from renowned marque specialist CMC of Bridgnorth the older restored 1966 S1 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe prompted a bidding frenzy before eventually selling for £68,930. Another home market 1965 S1 4.2 FHC made £56,560, while a 1967 S1 4.2 FHC 2+2 commanded £41,440 and a 1971 S2 4.2 Roadster took £52,640 (the latter arguably needing a repaint).

Fast Fords were also popular with a smart rear-wheel drive 1990 Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth selling for £25,760, a 1978 Capri 3.0 Ghia fetching £11,760 and a 1977 Escort 1300 Sport realising £9,605. A notably original 1986 Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia commanded £5,152 too.

Good interest was shown in the 1981 Ferrari 400i, 2000 BMW M Coupe and 2001 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante which made £25,200, £25,480 and £31,920 respectively. Wonderfully patinated but in need of restoration the 1930 Austin Seven Fabric Saloon sold for £7,840. A true one-off, the Derby Bentley bodied Jaguar MKVIII Special was nicely finished and commanded £22,960.

72% of the motorcars and 75% of the motorcycles found new homes with several provisional sales yet to be concluded.

H&H's next auction will be held at The Imperial War Museum, Duxford on October 13-14th 2015 and is headlined by the late Richard Colton's 1960 Ferrari 250GT SWB and 1967 Ferrari 275GTB/4 both of which are being offered for sale at no reserve to benefit the RNLI.
