Classic Car Auctions

Classic Car Auctions held their sale of the year at the NEC Classic Car and Restoration show over the course of yesterday and today and the results are now online. Of notable interest are the 1962 Morris Minor 1000 (Series 3) which achieved top dollar money at £11,475 and demonstrates how much a good example can now command. A1983 Volkswagen Golf GTi Campaign which was one of 1,000 special edition Campaign models officially allocated to the UK dealer network made a strong £19,350. A 1979 Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 Custom with 42,675 miles on the clock looked very good indeed and the price reflected that at £47,250. Described as an entry level car which is usually code for meaning work needed, a 1990 BMW M5 (E34) Saloon made £15,525. Prices of these are only going in one direction and at that level there is plenty of room to invest in this car. A barn find 1970 Austin Mini 1275GT which was most definitely barn fresh and in need of recommissioning at the very least caught at least two bidders eyes and wallets as it rose to a record £38,250. The car has just 11,836 miles and is fresh from 33 years storage. The key question is what do you do with it when you get it home, restoration will destroy the price you have paid for it, and so perhaps a gentle recommissioning will be the order of the day. The money paid today would undoubtedly buy you a concours car and leave change for several nice lunches! Fast Fords are being caught up now and surpassed by Fast Audis such as the 1992 Audi Quattro Turbo 20V (RR) in this sale which is one of just 295 right-hand drive 20V (RR) models built. The price certainly reflected that at £63,563. They may not be everyone's cup of tea but a 1979 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II with one Owner and15,500 miles on the clock generated plenty of interest to make £37,125. Final mention has to go to a 1975 Ford Transit Custom Mk1 Pick Up in superb order which made £23,850.
