We have a plethora of auctions due to take place over the next month and Brightwells are next up kicking off a timed auction of cars today which will end after 12 noon on the 28th May. The sale is different to the others that are due over the coming weeks in that they have not allowed any viewing of the cars and bidders will have to rely on descriptions and other information provided by Brightwells.

The major auction houses are now starting to commit to dates for their next sales although exactly what format they may take is yet to be announced and it will depend on how lock down restrictions are eased over the coming weeks. Bonhams have a sale in just three weeks time and it may well be online and telephone only, but we will soon know.

With the classic car auction industry in a state of paralysis following the arrival of COVID 19, auction houses are having to quickly adapt to new selling methods to try and keep some momentum going during what is traditionally the peak selling period. CCA held a timed online auction over a 16 day period which given the circumstances delivered a not too bad result with some 61% of the cars offered finding new homes with £1.

The format of classic car auctions is likely to change for the foreseeable future with sales now taking place behind closed doors and limited opportunities for viewing. Bonhams will be adopting this format tomorrow which is completely understandable given the impact the COVID 19 virus is having.

Mathewsons will be holding their second sale of the year next week on the 21st. The auction house has put out a statement saying business as usual but it seems inevitable that attendance numbers might well be hit given the worries over Covid-19.

Brightwells first sale of the year takes place this week and it has shaped up to be a good auction with plenty to interest most tastes. Examples of what are on offer include an 11,000 miles from new Morris Minor Traveller with just two owners which has just emerged from 45 years of storage and is estimated at £10,000 to £15,000.

Brightwells first sale of the year on the 4th March at their usual basis in Leominster has an excellent line up of cars including a real rarity which is a 1947 Nash Woody estate. It is even rarer in the sense that this is an original right hand drive car.
