Classic Car Classifieds > AC Ace - Bristol
The AC Ace which was designed by John Tojeiro was introduced in 1953. The early Ace cars utilised the standard 1991cc AC engine which had been used in the 2 litre car. As time wore on the car was developed which included the introduction of front disc brakes from 1956 and the old 2 litre engine was replaced by the BMW based Bristol 2 litre engine which generated 120bhp. The original Bristol configuration included three downdraft solex carburettors. Later cars went on to utilise the MK 2 Ford Zephyr 2.6 litre engine straight six engine of which 46 were made. It was one of these cars that Carol Shelby bought and went on to design the AC Cobra utilising a Ford small block V8. Production of the Ace ended in 1963.
Construction of the ACE body was aluminium panels on a steel tube frame.
AC have produced certain models that became some of the prettiest cars of their periods. The ACE was one of those models.
463 Bristol engined cars were produced.
