Undoubtedly a record that will not be broken, this weekend's major result at Silverstone Auctions sale is the £722,500 paid for a 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo S1 which was formerly owned by Diana, Princess of Wales. It is an eye watering sum when you consider what a car without the provenance is worth and it proves that even 25 years after her death, the celebrity status she had has not diminished and if anything it has increased given the almost daily stories that surround her family and friends. We wonder what value a car like this will command in 20 years time given the huge premium that has been paid. One day we will find out!
