New MOT rules come into effect today

Most classics over the age of 40, ie at present pre 1978 cars will now be exempt from the requirement for an MOT unless they have been substantially modified. However, you can voluntarily submit your car for a test and the good news is that it will not be subjected to the tougher rules that apply to modern cars. As we understand it MOT test centres will be allowed to use their discretion as to what is a pass or fail for an historic car. We strongly recommend that irrespective of the 40 year rule you continue to get your classic tested. It makes a huge amount of sense to have an independent person inspect your car every year to ensure it remains in roadworthy condition.
