Austin Seven trends
15 July 2019
Attempting to decipher price trends in classic cars at present is very difficult, but with many marques the trends at present are clearly in a downward direction. One clear example last week was the £7,480 paid for an Austin Seven Top Hat at the Brightwells auction in Leominster. This is a rare variant of the Austin Seven and if you go back six years these cars were commanding the best part of £20,000. To see one sell for just £7,480 shows a significant drop in value which is something we are seeing across most Austin Seven models apart from the extremely rare variants such as the Swallow two seater tourer. As to why values are dropping, we have to consider that demand is falling with fewer people left that have an affiliation with cars of this era plus a generally lacklustre market which is making people less willing to buy at the moment over fear of falling prices. Will prices fall further? We simply do not know, buy for those seeking some pre war fun, these cars are getting closer to where they stood prior to the credit crisis bounce and who knows, they make actually start to move higher again.
