Bonhams

Bonhams Beaulieu auction contained some interesting cars most of which found new homes. The result that interests us was the VW Golf GTi MK1 which had been subjected to a full rebuild and was a 65,000 mile car. Importantly the interior was original and the car had been in the same ownership since 1985. The price including premium was £16,100 which shows just how far values ofthese cars have come in recent years. The 80s hot hatch is very much in fashion now and clearly 70s and 80s cars are still very much a growth area as people from this era reach their 40s and 50s and have some spare cash to buy a car they remember from their childhood.

Also crossing the block was a barn find Bristol 402, an absolutely fabulous looking car and although a full restoration is required this car should easily recoup any investmnet when you consider there are two other examples on the market at the moment, one for £175,000 and the other for a hge £275,000. The auction car made just over £104,000 which looks about right.

A relatively rare barn find Riley Imp achieved £49,450 which was a good price in our view especially given that restored examples can still be found for around the £70k mark.
