Silverstone Auctions season opener

Silverstone auctions first sale of the year took place yesterday with a number of interesting results. The first was £36,562 paid for a 1995 Daimler Six (X300) 4.0 which has just 1,512 miles from new on the clock with just one registered keeper. This is a record by some margin for one of these. The barn find of the sale has to be the 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL (E9) which is one of just 500 cars built in right hand drive format. The car has just emerged from 16 years of storage and has 78,142 miles on the clock and went on to make £67,500. Another low mileage car in the sale was a 1989 BMW M635 CSi Manual (E24) with 19,498 miles from new. This one made £81,000. A very nice 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Coupe (W111) made £76,500. Fast Fords remain in favour as always as demonstrated by the £51,750 paid for the 1972 Ford Escort RS1600. The best bid of the day goes to the 2001 Ford Focus WRC. Ex-Colin McRae which made very strong money at £423,300. In the pre war category a 1939 Frazer Nash-BMW 327/80 Cabriolet made £144,000 which is about right for one of these and shows that prices for correct pre war cars are holding firm.
