Mathewsons on the 5th and 6th February

Mathewsons have taken the brave step of going ahead with their first sale of the year to be held over the 5th and 6th February. Current Covid restrictions mean that they will not be able to offer people the opportunity of viewing cars prior to bidding. It will be interesting to see what degree of success they have as many people will be reluctant to bid, but that said there are probably an equal number of people who will rely on the descriptions to bid. It may well mean lower bidding levels than usual which could throw up a bargain or two.

Looking at the list there is plenty to choose from with competitive estimates such as a 1968 Daimler V8 250 (estimate £8,000 to £9,000), a 1981 MGB GT LE with a reported 13,000 miles on the clock, although the bodywork does need work which is why the estimate of £5,000 to £6,000 is low if it is a warranted low mileage car. A 1971 Ford Capri 1300 GT XLR with a reported 54,462 miles on the clock looks to be estimated about right at £20,000 to £22,000. A 1947 MG TC is estimated at £15000+ which would be cheap if this is a well sorted example. For those seeking a fast Ford restoration the sale includes a Ford Escort MK2 RS2000 which is estimated at £10,000 to £12,000.For fans of commercials we have to mention the superb 1954 Morris Oxford van. It is estimated at £20,000 to £22,000 which is the top end of the range, but certainly what a near perfect example is worth.
