Bargain Lagonda at SWVA

SWVA held their latest auction last week and among the lots on offer was a 1953 3.0L Tickford Body Drophead Coupe. The car has been in the same hands for the last 14 years and has only come to market due to his death. Looking at the video of the car provided by SWVA, it looks to be in very good order although no doubt there will be some issues whether paint or mechanical, but in the main this appears to be a nice car. The estimate was £60,000 to £65,000 which looked about right an would have suggested a high reserve. However, on the day the car sold at half price with a hammer of £29,000 plus the buyer's premium. As to why a car such as this would sell at a giveaway price, it is always difficult to say. Firstly the estimate might well have put some off as big ticket cars can struggle at the moment with people preferring to sit on their cash than splurge big on a car given what is going on in the world around us That might well have kept buyers away leaving perhaps one genuine buyer who managed to grab it for peanuts. These cars can sell for the best part of £100k so someone last week certainly got a bargain, well bought indeed!
