South Western Vehicle Auctions

SWVA is clearly building a name for itself judging from the number of people attending the latest auction. The auction room was packed and there simply wasn't room to move in the auction room itself making life a little difficult for those wanting to see the cars drive through and bid at the same time. It is a familiar scene now in many auction rooms with retail customers rather than trade making up the majority of the numbers present. The star car was the Austin Healey Le Man 100/4 pre production car which burst through the upper ceiling of its estimated range of £60,000 to £80,000 to finally arrive at £164,000 which was not that much of a surprise given the rarity and provenance. The cars that took our eye included a lovely Austin A40 Somerset with only 39,714 miles on the clock. The car looked superb and went to £6890 which is about right for such a nice example. We also rather liked the Volkswagen Type 3 Variant 1972 which was also in fantastic condition and something of a rarity. We were not all surprised to see the car achieved a well deserved price of £12,985. We were also impressed with a rubber bumper 1980 MGB Roadster which was hard to fault. The prices of these cars are really starting to pick up now given that you can pay £15k to £20k for a first class earlier chrome bumper car. The auction car achieved £8,162 which is about right in the current market.Overall this was a good auction with most of the cars finding new homes and we look forward to the next auction in October.
