The results from the weekend Silverstone sale at the NEC demonstrate that the classic car market remains healthy especially among the more modern classics. It might well be this area of the market that offers the most growth now after the exponential rise in Porsche, Ferrari and Aston Martin in recent years. It is once again some of the Ford results that standout such as the £30,375 paid for a Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 2 with just 12,000 miles on the clock and the £40500 paid for a Ford Escort Cosworth Lux with 20,600 miles on the clock. Another low mileage (12,000 miles) RS car, this time a Fiesta RS Turbo hit £19,688. It wasn't just Fords that were making strong money; it was interesting to see Series 3 E-Type roadsters making numbers much closer to their earlier counterparts. One roadster with just less than 45,000 miles on the clock achieved £119,250 whilst a recently restored 1974 car made £81,563. A series 1 4.2 litre roadster which looked stunning fetched £146,250 That was not all, a concours 4.2 series 2 2plus 2 achieved what must be a record of £70,875 and it was a California left hand drive import. A 1962 3.8 litre roadster made £171,000; this car had been with the same owner since the early 1970s. To round it all off a 1974 series 3 roadster which has been with the same family since the 80s and in barn find condition achieved a very respectable £69,750.E-Types are very much a bellweather for the market and if these cars are achieving near record prices, it is hard to dispute that the market is still in good form.

Other notable results include the £33,188 paid for an Alvis TD21 which looked to be in very good order. A future classic which is already showing its investment potential was a BWM Z3M Coup which only had 11,000 miles on the clock and achieved what must be a clear record of £58,500.A 1988 Porsche 928S4 with 18,500 miles made £49,500 which is quite possible record pace for one of these. Finally, among many very strong results we have to take note of the £95,625 paid for a Rolls Royce Corniche Convertible. The car had 26,000 miles on the clock and has been with the same family since new.
