Silverstone Auctions sale over the weekend of the Silverstone Classic generated lots of interesting results. The sales were divided up and included several cars from the collection of Richard Hammond. The Saturday sale included some fast Fords such as a 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth with 30,000 miles which made £73,125. A 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo S1 with 14,829 mile made £63,000 whilst a 1985 Ford Escort 1.6i Cabriolet with just 3,043 miles did not find a buyer but was on at a buy it now price of £20,700. A very nice 1983 Ford Escort RS1600i made £46,125. A 1989 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo LE which is one of just 53 examples made and with just over 31,000 miles on the clock made a heady £151,875. One of the biggest prices in the sale came from a 1997 Porsche 911 (993) 3.8 RSR Carrera Cup which is one of just 45 cars and made a big £652,500. There is no doubt that Jaguar XK prices have been slipping back but that did not stop someone paying £185,625 for a fine looking 1959 Jaguar XK150 3.4-Litre 'S' Roadster (RHD). The prize for a record price went to a 1991 Audi Ur-Quattro 20V (RR). Documented as the last 20V, RHD, Ur-Quattro Coupé to leave the factory and with under 10,000 miles. There were no major surprise in the main classic car sale. However, the £66,938 paid for a 1964 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 FHC S1 shows how much prices of these cars have fallen. Go back a few years and people were paying the best part of £100k for total basket cases which this car was not. A 1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 'External Bonnet Lock' Roadster failed to sell but was on a post auction buy it now of £173,000. Interesting Jaguar MK2 3.8 cars in top condition are almost commanding E-Type money now, they have been on the rise for some time, perhaps due to them being a far more practical classic and one such example in this sale made £59,625.
