Silverstone Auctions

The latest Silverstone Auctions sale took place at the NEC alongside the annual Classic Motor Show. This is a must attend event if you are a classic car enthusiast with a huge array of cars on show. The auction itself went very well indeed with a number of cars exceeding top estimates.

Silverstone Auctions had consigned an excellent selection of cars and as always seems to be the case top billing went to the Aston marque with a DB2/4 MK III with one owner from new comfortably beating its estimate of £150,000-£170,000 with a sale price of £220.800.

The DB2s have always looked undervalued relative to the DB4/5/6 and more recent auction results would suggest they are now playing catch-up. There was also a DB5 on offer which had been subject to a sympathetic restoration and here again the estimate of £280,000-£310,000 was comfortably passed with a final sale price of £362250. The surprise result for us was the strong £33,350 paid for an MG Y Type which is a rare car and this one looks lovely in the pictures but still a significant result compared to previous sale values for these cars.

The car which received star billing was the ex Juan Manuel Fangio 1970 IKA Torino 380s which went on to achieve a very respectable £28,175.

There was also confirmation once again from the sale result for a For Capri 280 Brooklands that these cars are gaining in value very rapidly along with the 3 litre cars. This one was unrestored and had 47,000 miles on the clock. The price achieved was a strong £15,870.
