Richard Edmonds

Richard Edmonds sale last week was focused predominantly on Automobilia which is their area of expertise but they are expanding the car sales as well and on Saturday 67 lots went under the hammer. There was a good cross section of cars on offer with a few rarities which Richard Edmonds auctions are good at finding. In this case it was two Austin Sevens, one being a very rare Top Hat which almost never come up for sale and there was also another Austin Seven rarity, The Top Hat was a fully rebuilt example that is fitted with a correct Magneto engine although its original engine was out of the car but was included in the sale. The final sale price including commission came to just under £20,000 which was about right for such a rare seven and shows that these cars are continuing to appreciate in value. The other car which is clearly even rare was a 1935 Austin 7 Arrow ‘Competition 75’ Sports of which only two such cars are known to exist. Production numbers for these cars remain sketchy although the Richard Edmonds narrative which quotes the Austin Seven bible, The Austin Seven Source Book by Bryan Purves that it is thought that less than 50 factory produced Austin Seven 75 Sports and Speedy cars were made, between April 1934 and August 1935. The final sale price of a little under £23,000 reflects the rarity.
