The turnout at Historics Mercedes Benz World sale on Saturday was the biggest we have seen. The weight of numbers certainly had the staff at Mercedes Benz World worried with restrictions placed on entry to the sale area at one point due to fears over the number of people on the first floor. The huge turnout resulted in some very strong sale numbers signalling a very healthy end for the classic car market. There were a number of interesting results. One was a Mercedes Benz 280CE, a model that has been out of favour for years but is now starting to see a notable rise in value. The example on offer in this sale looked to be in lovely condition but was by no means a low mileage car at 71,276, although this didn't stop it achieving a very respectable £11,760 for a no reserve car. Only one micro car from a significant collection failed to find a new home and the one standout result among them was the £31,360 paid for a 1957 Tourette Supreme against its estimate of £18,000 to £24,000. This was one of just three surviving examples which might explain the premium paid; where will you find another!? Porsche cars have been rising in value this year and it was interesting to see the £107,520 paid for a 1985 911 3.2 Targa which has been the subject of a total rebuild by Porsche to as new standard. The seller actually took a modest hit as he had bought the car from a 2015 Historics auction for £115,360. With interest in the pre war market waning over the last 18 months or so, it was encouraging to see a lovely Bentley 4.25 litre break through its upper estimate to achieve an excellent £92,960.
