H&H

29 March 2017

The results from the latest H&H auction at the Imperial War Museum Duxford did not provide any major surprises but with some good results achieved nevertheless. It never ceases to amaze us what people will pay for a Jaguar E-Type 3.8 litre restoration project. Admittedly the supply of barn find restorations is undoubtedly going to start dwindling soon, but even so when you factor in the costs of a full professional restoration it is difficult to see much payback from some of the projects that are being bought. The one in this sale could not have been more of a project but still commanded a significant £38.812 for a Coupe that was just a rusty shell. Keep an eye on Lotus Esprit values as there may well be more upside to come here given the limited supply of some models such as the Commemorative edition in this sale which eventually fetched £38,250. A rather impressive VW Beetle that was in concours condition netted the princely sum of £17,592. A Jaguar XK140 SE DHC achieved £110,250 which was more than the estimate of £80,000 to £100,000; we are seeing strong prices for good XKs at the moment.
