H&H

The first major sale after the UK's decision to exit the EU was never going to be an easy one to get away without some clear signs of nervousness among the buyers present. That certainly turned out to be the case with H&H's Chateau Impney sale with 44 out of 72 lots failing to find a new home. This is more than likely to be a knee jerk reaction to the shock of the referendum decision, but only time will tell if the market is going to settle back into the pre referendum rhythm of recent months.

The notable results include the £25760 paid for a Datsun 240 which was a nicely restored left hand drive example. It is generally the right hand drive cars that command a premium but these cars have been increasingly in demand and even nice examples of left hand drive cars have been on the up in recent months.

There is no doubt that the market for pre war cars has been weak for some time now but this didn't stop a rather nice 1932 Morgan three wheeler bursting through its upper estimate of £40,000 to achieve a handsome £44800 for its owner.

Another notable entry in this sale was a 1975 Porsche Carrera 3.0. These are rare cars indeed for this year and a total of only 3,690 cars were made according to H&H of which just 58 were fitted with the Porsche Sportomatic gearbox as this car had. It was therefore not surprising to see the car make £39,760.

Rubber bumper MGB Roadsters have always lagged behind their chrome bumper counterparts but in the case of low mileage cars such as the 20,280 mile example in this sale, the discount disappears and sometimes a rubber bumper car can go for a premium which is exactly what this car did with a final price of £12,712 against the estimate of £9000 to £11000.

Overall H&H were up against it with this sale so soon after the referendum result and this result is likely to be an aberration rather than the norm in our view.
