More classic TV coming soon
18 January 2020
The number of programmes devoted to classic cars has proliferated in recent years which has undoubtedly help to improve the popularity of the hobby and enticed many to try their hand at buying and selling. Two such programmes which have new series this year are Slavage Hunters Classic Cars which is fronted by Drew Pritchard and Paul Cowland and Bangers and Cash which is a fly on the wall covering the DT Mathewsons auction house and the work they do.
Salvage Hunters Classic Cars aims with each programme to buy a car, restore it or improve it and sell it on at a profit. Whilst we haven't see any of the new series which started on the 8th January on Quest, the last series does suggest that not all costs are accounted for when arriving at a final profit figure. This is a criticism that can be leveled at many of these shows which are fun to watch but perhaps not a 100% reflection of the costs and potential gains from trading in classics. It is certainly worth watching to see the pitfalls and potential gains from trading in classics.
Our favourite show has to be Bangers and Cash which has its second series beginning on 5th Feb on the Yesterday channel on Freeview. This gives a real insight into the trials and tribulations of running an auction house devoted to classic cars. The company is DT Mattewsons in Yorkshire which is very much a family run concern. They are all devoted to classics and this comes through in the programme showing their genuine enthusiasm for the cars they sell and the service they provide. It also shows the people who are selling their cars and why along with details of who the cars end up with once the car has gone through the sale. Plus sometimes you get to hear of a car's history before it crosses the block. It is a great fun programme and if you haven't visited a Mathewson sale it is about time you did. They are a lot of fun and there is always a big selection of interesting cars and you never know you might end up on TV!
