Bonhams record for a pram hood Austin Seven Chummy
04 September 2018
We believe Bonhams Beaulieu sale at the weekend generated a record result for an unlikely car given the current market in pre war cars. The car in question was a 1925 pram hood Austin Seven Chummy which according to the Bonhams narrative had been the subject of a meticulous £20,000 restoration. The pictures say it all, the car must have appeared like new and no doubt spirited bidding between two or more contenders pushed the price well north of what you would expect to pay for a fully restored example with a final price including premium of £37,950. This will not be the start of a sudden uplift in Austin Seven values and is simply the case of the price being pushed to the limit in the heat of the moment. If such a car was presented for sale in the private ads at this price we doubt there would be much if any response although that is not to say that the buyer has not got a lovely car, we are sure he has.
