Auction fever strikes at Brightwells Jaguar Land Rover sale

It is never easy to understand why bidding fever can usurp logic, but yesterday's sale at Brightwells which we attended produced a surprising result with fevered bidding pushing an Austin Seven Opal that is in need of full restoration to over £12,000. The engine did look as if it had been freshly rebuild albeit not in the car. However, with seats to be retrimmed along with the hood, and a full respray, bodywork to attend to and poor chrome, whichever way you cut it this car was going to cost far more than what it is worth when it is done. A nicely restored example came on the market this week for under £10,000. Bidders beware, don't get carried away in the moment and always stick to the price you want to pay. We will have lots of images from the sale up later today.
