About the Talbot Ten
The Talbot 10 was introduced in 1936 by Rootes to replace the Aero Minx and become the sporting version of the Hillman Minx. It consisted of a pressed steel body on a steel chassis with leaf spring suspension. There were three versions produced, a tourer, a drophead coupe, and an airline saloon. Although the engine block was that of the Hillman Minx, it was fitted with an alloy head to increase performance. The earliest models in 1936 had the spare wheel externally mounted on the boot, but for later models the spare wheel was placed inside the boot in a wheel well. The tourer was equipped with hood and four detachable sidescreens , and had a windscreen that could be folded down onto the bonnet. The windscreen wiper motor was a little external unit that was mounted on the top of the windscreen. The rear seat was a hinged metal tray and the lower seat squab was an inflatable rubber unit with a leather cover. the front seats were bucket seats. It had a wooden dashboard with Jaegar instrumentation. There was an open glove compartment on the far left. The DHC was somewhat more refined with glass windows. In 1938, with new body variations and changes the cars were re-badged as Sunbeam Talbots and evolved through the model 80 to several versions of the Sunbeam talbot 90, the Sunbeam Alpines, etc.
