Intelligence Data:
About the Jaguar S Type
The S Type was originally intended to replace the Mk II by a gradual fade out of the older model. It was 3cwt heavier than the MKII and thus no 2.4Litre option was provided. Two engine sizes were available, 3.4 and 3.8 Litres. The interior of the S-Type was more like the MK 10 than the MK II. The ride was better than the MKII with the introduction of independent rear suspension as used on the E-Type. Total production of 3.4 cars was 9928 and of 3.8 cars 15,065. Up until December, 1964 the Moss gearbox was fitted but after this the all synchromesh gearbox replaced it.
