About the Austin A55
In 1959 the new shape Austin A55 Cambridge known as the MKII and designed by PininFarina in Italy, was introduced. It had somewhat squarer lines than the range of Austin models that it replaced, with tail fins at the rear. An SU carburrettor was fiited to the engine, and 9 inch drum brakes were fitted all round. Front suspension was independent springs, with a live axle and semi elliptic springs fitted at the rear. In 1960 an estate version was introduced and called the Countryman.
