If you attended the Mathewsons auction on Saturday you would have seen a packed house and it was so busy that people were unable to get in to the memorabilia auction and the car auction was little better with bidders having to bid from outside the room. It must have been busy as they ran out of auction catalogues on the morning of the sale. Hats of to Mathewsons for getting a great list of cars for the sale. We have been attending these sales for many years now and we remember the times when you could turn up and get a car parking space in the 300 space village car park. Sadly unless you turn up first thing the car park is full by 9:30 and mayhem ensues. What a difference the Bangers and Cash programme has made to the attendance numbers, it really is crazy on sale day!

Quite a few dealers tend to buy at this auction usually from the south as they can get better prices in the south of the country. It did amuse us to see one Mini bought by a dealer in the south only for someone in Yorkshire to then buy the car (we watch news feeds for all dealers to see where cars go!). So no major excitement in terms of results, but still good prices achieved for good cars. Our favourite was the Morris Marina L Coupe which was almost like new with very little mileage on the clock. Great value at £5,913 even if it isn't a car at the top of everyone's shopping list. A really nice Austin Seven Ulster recreation made a little over £13k. A very nice Rover P3 75 sold for £8,923 which is now with a dealer. A Fordson 5cwt van was the subject of some spirited bidding which took the price to just over £12k. An up and coming classic are the Volvo 7 series cars and in this sale there was an almost mint 1989 Volvo 740 GLE 2.3 which sold for £3,763 and ended up with a dealer for almost £6k and sold almost immediately.
