H&H

Wednesday's H&H auction included the two big ticket Ferrari's which were sold on behalf of the Estate of Richard Colton with the proceeds being donated to the RNLI. The Ferrari 250GT SWB was one of just ten right hand drive cars and the final price including fees of £7,392,000 may well be a record for this model. The other Ferrari was a 275GTB/4 which also achieved a notable £2,161,600. The auction had a very strong selection of cars on offer with some very good prices achieved. Of historical interest was a 1973 Aston Martin V8 which was believed to be a works development car having left the factory three years after its production date. The car was in need of restoration but its provenance clearly helped the final price of £72,800. A 1929 Morgan Aero which had been restored by its previous owner went for just £16,800 which is some way off what these three wheelers have been making in recent years and we wonder if it is another reflection of weakening prices for some pre-war cars. Either way the price still looked cheap given the fun factor a Morgan provides. The auction provided another strong result for a nut and bolt restored Land Rover Series one, this one was a 1986 model and the price of £39,760 is similar to other well restored examples we have seen sold over the last two years. A 1950 Jaguar XK 120 which had been with the current vendor since 2008 whom discovered it in a Yorkshire museum went to the trade for just £45,920, a good buy given what original early XKs have been achieving this year. A fixed head coupe in the same sale achieved £112,000. Finally, returning to the Richard Colton collection, a 550 Maranello in right hand drive form and with just 29,000 miles on the clock hit a record £150,000. These cars have been widely tipped as being blue chip long term investments and judging from recent sale trends the forecasts are already being proved correct.
