H&H

H&H held their latest auction yesterday which in our view shows the market to be holding up reasonably well and if anything demonstrating that good cars will make good money. There have been some concerns over E-Type values and this sale had three series 2 4.2 coupes which achieved sale results of £73,125 (ESTIMATE: £45,000 - £55,000), £42,750 and £95,625 (Estimate:£80,000 - £100,000) . The lowest value car was originally a left hand drive car which explains the discount. To see a series 2 car achieve almost £100k suggests there is little weakness in E-Type values at the moment. The sale also included a nice series 3 roadster and as we know the V12 cars have always sold at a discount to the earlier cars, but this example made a very strong £91,125 (Estimate:£75,000 - £85,000). Not all E-Types in the sale found a home, but certainly no sign of any real stress in values.

What appears to be a cheap car is the 1959 Daimler Dart which only achieved £16,333. This is cheap even for a partial restoration project and the narrative describes the car as being in good condition so someone might well have picked up a bargain. Another Dart in the sale which was estimated at £36,000 - £40,000 failed to sell.

The headline car was the AC Ace powered by a Bristol engine which came within estimate at £233,166.67. The big surprise was the 1973 Lancia Fulvia 1600 HF Lusso which was estimated at £12,000 - £16,000 and sold for £32,625, perhaps a record for one of these.
