Bonhams

Bonhams Goodwood Revival meeting auction contained a good number of big ticket cars and gained plenty of interest due to Chris Evans' including a number of his cars in the sale. The results were generally very good although several of Chris Evans cars failed to find new homes. There were not many standout results as most cars that sold did so within estimate. The £82,140 paid for Chris Evans Daimler Dart police car was a new auction record for a Dart and quite a premium to the price he paid for this car just twelve months ago. We doubt this suggests any shift in valuation for Darts and we can only apportion the celebrity factor and two bidders desperately wanting it on the day. The bargain on the day had to be the V12 E-Type roadster which according to Bonhams narrative had only 25,100 miles from new and had been the subject of a £19k restoration by Jaguar. The car looks to be in good order and the price of £44,500 very good value when you consider what you would have to pay for an early E-Type now. On the more modern front a 2005 Ford GT achieved £326,300 which is probably three times what you would have had to pay for one of these cars only a few years ago. We can see these cars going considerably higher over the long term and we are even seeing the prices of the early kit cars such as the GTD now making progress. One of the rarely seen 1949 Healey Elliott Sports Saloons was in this sale, a strange looking car, but the rarity factor alone makes them appealing to collectors and this one went on to achieve £32,200 including premium which is on par with other auction results. Overall this auction included some lovely cars, many of which found new homes and what better a setting than the Revival to hold a sale, well done Bonhams.
