Anglia Car Auctions latest sale included a mammoth 294 entries. We were not present on the day, but can only imagine the scale of their auctioneer's task of getting through so many lots before the end of the day! The total number of lots sold was 220 making for a 75% sale rate which seems quite respectable given the number of lots on offer. There were not that many significant results just generally numbers in line or close to estimate. A fully restored Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite achieved just above its top estimate at £20,212. These cars have risen a great deal over the last couple of years and we are no regularly seeing top examples advertised at over £20k. A 1958 Mercedes Benz 190SL which was in need of work still fetched £92,400 which was far above the estimate of £60,000 to £70,000. Another Mercedes to surpass its estimate was a 1966 Mercedes Benz 230SL Pagoda Auto RHD which achieved £57,750 against the estimate of £39,000 to £45,000. Staying with Mercedes, a 1977 Mercedes Benz 450SE with just 12,900 miles from new was within estimate at £13,860. These cars are starting to find favour and values have begun to tick up in recent years, especially low mileage examples such as this. There has been much talk of the slow decline in the pre war car market, but we do still see good results for pre war cars especially if they have a tale to tell. In this instance a Daimler E20 that was on display at the 1936 Motorshow and was bought on the day after a wife insisted her husband bought it for her had remained with the same family until its sale at ACA. The car was estimated at £15,000 to £20,000, but it burst through its estimate to make £23,887.
